When it comes the heavy-duty truck, the Silverado 3500 line is one of the best. It consistently has some of the highest ratings from reviewers and owners thanks to its raw capability and reliability. With the current generation of Silverado 3500 models having a max towing capacity of over 35,000 lbs, it’s easy to see why. If you’re looking to get your hands on a used, lifted Chevy Silverado 3500, you’ve come to the right place.
Third-generation Silverado 3500 models are tough, pulling up to 23,300 lbs. They came with one of two different engines: a 6.0L V8 or a 6.6L Duramax V8 turbodiesel. The 6.0L V8 produces 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. The 6.6L Duramax increases those numbers to 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic was standard on the later model years of this generation.
The fourth generation of Silverado 3500 improved performance drastically. It still has two available engines: a new 6.6L V8 and the returning 6.6L Duramax V8 turbodiesel. The new 6.6L V8 produces 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, much more that the 6.0L V8 from the previous generation. The 6.6L Duramax still produces 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque, but towing capacity has skyrocketed. The max towing capacity has gone up to 36,000 lbs (on the 2021 Silverado 3500), a 12,000 lbs increase over the past generation. Fourth-generation Silverado 3500 models have a 10-speed automatic transmission regardless of engine.
